Abstract

Clinical Question: Does private health insurance affect time to surgery in pediatric patients with orthopedic injuries compared to public health insurance? Clinical Bottom Line: There is consistent evidence indicating that pediatric patients with orthopedic conditions enrolled in public health insurance experience longer times to surgery compared to those pediatric patients with private health insurance. Delayed access to care due to insurance status may affect patient outcomes, including return to activity. Health care providers should promote health literacy and advocate for patients.
