Imhotep Journal - Call for Abstracts - April 2026 Issue
“Wehemu Mesu (Repetition of the Births): Africology & Africana Studies Scholarship and Advancing the African Renaissance”
Are you a MA or PhD student in Africology and Africana Studies looking for your first publication? We invite you to submit an abstract that reflects your current research projects for the April 2026 issue of Imhotep Graduate Student Journal.
Imhotep Graduate Student Journal is a peer-reviewed, open access journal managed by the graduate students of the Africology and African American Studies Department at Temple University. More than thirty-six years ago, in January 1989, the Imhotep Graduate Student Journal was first published as a platform to explore global African phenomena and to rediscover African epistemologies through intellectual discourse. Imhotep Graduate Student Journal provides an opportunity for developing scholars to gain experience with peer review academic publishing.
We invite current graduate students in Africana Studies to submit abstracts for original research papers (15-22 double spaced pages). Imhotep Journal especially encourages the submission of revised term papers, conference presentations, or thesis chapters. The 2026 issue will consist of submissions which ask a broad range of research questions that engage the African Renaissance in this contemporary moment and the power of culture to shape the future and utilize Afrocentric methodologies to bolster African/Black cultural reconstruction and well-being beyond the academy.
Submit your abstracts on or before Friday, October 10, 2025, to be considered for inclusion in the April 2026 issue of Imhotep Graduate Student Journal. Abstracts should be between 250-500 words. Preference will be given to papers that advance the discipline of Africology in theoretical, historical, or philosophical dimensions. To submit your project, please complete the form at the link below. Applicants will receive an invitation with additional details for manuscript submission if accepted.
