Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is Microsoft Word file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

TUHSSA does not prescribe a particular citation format for submissions, however, reviewers have the most experience with the Chicago Manual of Style and MLA, though it is preferred that submissions be submitted in Chicago style, as works selected for publication will be converted to Chicago style with endnotes.

Works submitted should include original research and thought and not simply be a brief analysis, they should be substantive and deeply engage the topic at hand. Successful submissions should consult several reliable scholarly sources. Works should be between 7 and 20 pages in length. Longer works may be accepted upon review on a case-by-case basis. TUHSSA only accepts submissions from undergraduate students at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Front Matter

This section of Perceptions includes the Front Matter of the journal issue: Title page, copyright, ISBN, letter from the editor, table of contents, and credit to the editorial board, etc.

All works are the property of their respective authors, but by submitting a paper to Perceptions, the Temple Undergraduate History and Social Sciences Association has permission to publish and make available the work in question.
