Creative Work

Update 1/19/2021: Maneto is no longer accepting submissions for the Spring 2021 publication. Any submissions received will be deferred to the next editorial cycle for consideration for the 2022 volume of the journal.
 
Qualifications

Maneto accepts creative writing submissions from various disciplines within the university. All pieces considered must be created in an undergraduate program at Temple University. Graduating seniors may submit pieces for publication within a year of graduation. Multiple submissions from the same author are allowed. Any thesis piece from a creative writing capstone course is eligible for submission, regardless of word count. This includes portfolios — if an author has a collection of pieces (such as shorter poems or stories), they are welcome to submit them as one submission. Other submissions should be directed to Temple University’s literary and arts magazine, Hyphen.

 

Submitting

All submissions should be sent to submissions.maneto@gmail.com.

  • The subject line should read “Creative - Author Name, Name of Piece”

  • Include full name, co-authors (if any), full title of the piece, and the names of anyone involved in the project and the role they played in its creation.

  • Submissions will then undergo a blind review process and the author will be contacted when a decision has been made by the editorial board. If accepted, the piece then enters the editing process.

 

Format and Style

For works of prose:

  • Piece must exceed 2,000 words. Work may be submitted as a portfolio or a single piece. Any shorter pieces should be directed to Temple University’s literary and creative arts magazine, Hyphen.

  • All work should be submitted as a .doc or .docx file.

  • All work should be formatted with a standard 12 pt. Times New Roman font standard one-inch margins, and double-spaced.

  • The majority of the piece must be in English. If you have any questions/concerns please contact us at templemaneto@gmail.com.

  • Keep in mind that the submissions will be viewed by various undergraduate, graduate, and faculty editors and a professional style and structure is expected.

For works of poetry:

  • Works from senior capstone courses may be submitted as a portfolio or a single piece. Any other pieces should be directed to Temple University’s literary and creative arts magazine, Hyphen.

  • All work should be submitted as a .doc or .docx file.

  • All work should be formatted with a standard Times New Roman.

Plagiarism

  • All works will be subject to a plagiarism review. If it is found that you have plagiarized your piece(s), it will be formally rejected and further submissions for publication will not be considered.

On Creative Commons

Creative Commons is an organization that has released various forms of copyright licenses free to the public. They allow creators to communicate which rights they wish to be respected without having to undergo an actual discussion with those who choose to interact with their work. Though Maneto utilizes CC BY-NC-SA , the Creative Commons license of the individual piece is left to the decision of the author. Maneto encourages authors to choose the CC BY-NC-SA license as well, however, Maneto believes it should be the author's decision as to how people can utilize their work. Please describe the Creative Commons license you prefer in your submission email along with your choice on the Author Agreement Form.
